The Post-Secondary Partnership Program sees Kayas College working with higher learning institutions in Alberta to bring relevant training to community members seeking specialized skills in modern industries.

Forestry Operations Metrics Management

Kayas has partnered with Northern Lakes College to deliver the Forestry Operations Metrics Management (FOMM) program in John D’or Prairie. Throughout the course, students gain skills and knowledge applicable to various careers in forestry and related industries, such as natural resource management.

The program started in early summer 2017, with students working to procure the necessary safety ticket prerequisites through Kayas’ Workplace Safety Training resources, as well as courses in chainsaw and ATV operation. The FOMM technical programming spans 3 months and covers topics including:

  • Compass Work
  • GPS and GIS data collection
  • Forest metrics and inventory
  • Reforestation surveying
  • Water crossing compliance
  • Harvest layout
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Forest reclamation
  • Fire Smart
  • Pine Beetle surveying

The program is scheduled to run through October 2017.
